One-Way Fingerprints Demo 1 of 4

Problem
Altered and counterfeit bank checks are:

  • cashed by banks and other    check payers.
  • accepted as payment for    goods and services.
  • accepted for deposit by    banks.

  • Solution

Provide Free web-based authentication so that:

  • a bank check's information    can be authenticated before    cashing or accepting as    payment or for deposit.
  • counterfeiters cannot produce    a bank check with the correct    information without access to    the actual check.

  • Benefits

Eliminate losses from counterfeit bank checks by detecting:

  • altered and counterfeit bank    check dollar amounts and    payees before cashing or    accepting as payment or for    deposit.
  • counterfeit bank check    numbers before cashing or    accepting as payment or for    deposit.
  • Authentication
This demo will show how Ethent's Positive Pay using One-Way Fingerprints system can be used to authenticate a bank check's amount and payee information - even though Ethent doesn't know the bank check's amount and payee information.

    Positive Pay Authentication
Positive Pay Authentication is a system in which a paying bank compares the amount and payee information printed on a bank check with the amount and payee information previously received from the bank check issuer. If there is a match the check is paid - if not the check is not paid.

    One-Way Fingerprints Authentication
In this demo One-Way Fingerprints of a bank check's amount and payee are calculated and these fingerprints are used to authenticate the amount and payee information printed on a bank check.

    Fingerprint
A Fingerprint of a bank check's amount or payee is a unique mathematical representation of the bank check's amount or payee.

    One-Way
A bank check's fingerprints are One-Way if the amount and payee cannot be calculated from their fingerprints.

    Example
For example, If the amount printed on a bank check is $945.62 and its fingerprint is "5a37b15891678db6b6f77ab35cde7949a20dcc1c", then this fingerprint is one-way if the $945.62 cannot be calculated from this fingerprint.

See Ethent Notes: "One-Way Fingerprints" for a more complete discussion.

    Calculate One-Way Fingerprints
For this demo these bank and account numbers are assumed:
    Bank Number: 1234
    Account Number: 5678

Provide a real or imaginary Check Number, Dollar Amount and Payee for a check - then click Submit.
